El Sereno - December 27, 2009

Distance: 25.3 miles Ascent: 3744 feet Moving time: 2:49 hours

It rained a bit yesterday and last night, so we went to our usual rainy ride, El Sereno. I started from home with a long sleeve shirt and tights on, but changed to a short sleeve shirt and took off the tights went I met with the others in Los Gatos. This turned out to be a wise decision as the weather turned out to be warmer than predicted (mid 50s) and I was generating sufficient heat on the way up the mountain.

We did our usual ascent (Overlook, Sheldon and Aquinas) up to the summit without any surprises. I held a steady pace all the way up and felt pretty good. I put on the long sleeve shirt and a windbreaker before heading down. We stopped for coffee in town.

I left the others after coffee and headed home the long way. I went back up Overlook Road and rode through the other section of El Sereno on Overlook Trail and then rode home.

This turned out to be a very nice day for riding. The air was clear and crisp and the trails were in good condition in spite of the rain. A good time was had by all.
